Quality IngredientsHypo-AllergenicCommand Performance contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and is free from wheat gluten, soya and dairy products. High quality MeatOur single protein source is premium quality and has been passed fit for human consumption. This also helps ensure high palatability. HerbsWith the focus on digestion, gut health and immunity, the following herbs have been included:- MarshmallowTraditionally, remedies are made from the dried peeled roots of marshmallow. When the roots are soaked in water they swell and form a soothing gel, which, when passed through the gastrointestinal tract, has the effect of calming the intestines. The main constituent of marshmallow is mucilage - a type of material produced by plants for storing energy. (Technically, mucilage is a type of sugar.) Interestingly, European physicians still prescribe this herb to treat gastro-enteritis and colitis. ParsleyParsley is the richest vegetable-herb source of Potassium – the muscle mineral. Potassium foods stimulate the kidneys to eliminate poisonous waste matter, they also help to preserve proper alkalinity of the blood and body fluids and they promote a healthy skin condition. Parsley is also an excellent source of the blood building nutrients – iron, copper and manganese as well as magnesium, calcium and vitamin A. Did you know? PeppermintTraditionally used as a digestive aid. RosemaryA natural preservative. Whole White RiceWhole white rice is a natural source of easily digestible carbohydrate that provides extra energy. Did you know? - It is easier to digest whole white rice than brown rice. Glucosamine SulphateGlucosamine Sulphate is a natural substance (extracted from plants) that provides building blocks to help make synovial fluid - the joints’ oil - thicker and more cushioning. It is also needed to help repair torn cartilage, sprained ligaments or strained tendons. ChondroitinGlucosamine is often combined with chondroitin, a substance that forms an important part of healthy cartilage and helps give cartilage its shock-absorbing properties. Chondroitin is thought to improve the beneficial effects of the effects of Glucosamine Sulphate. The most effective and purest form of chondroitin is that extracted from shark cartilage – this is the form used in ‘Command Performance’. MSM ( Methyl Sulfonyl Methane)MSM is another natural substance – extracted from pine bark. Claims have been made that it gives relief from pain, inflammation and allergies and that it can be used as a nutritional supplement. It is mostly identified with joint health and serves as a natural remedy to relieve the pain, inflammation and many symptoms of illness. ChicoryChicory has always been appreciated for its dieteric properties and for its composition of vitamins and minerals. Recently, it has taken on a new importance for its F.O.S. content. Prebiotic F.O.S. (Fructo-Oligosaccharides) FibresFound in large quantities in the chicory root, F.O.S. are carbohydrates that behave like fibres in the sense that they pass throughout the stomach and small intestine undigested and arrive in the colon intact. Upon arrival in the colon, they serve as a substrate for health-promoting bacteria and help to balance the flora in the gut. In simple terms, FOS serve to promote a healthy digestive system. This also results in little waste – great for kennel management. Did you know? - A healthy gut facilitates the absorption of nutrients and minerals. Generally, only about 20-30% of consumes calcium is absorbed by the body…with a healthy gut, up to 70% is absorbed. Command Performance is manufactured in the UK using fully traceable, non-GM ingredients.Whole Egg PowderAs the name suggests, we use the whole egg – yolk and white. YuccaA natural extract from South America that helps to reduce faecal odour. Chelated MineralsChelated minerals are more easily absorbed by the body and retained longer. High Quality FatUnlike many dog food manufacturers who use cheap, reclaimed oils that have been used previously in food manufacture (eg. crisps, etc), and then filtered, CSJ has only used the best - refined chicken oil. This top quality chicken oil is obtained by trimming fat off from around chicken fillets etc. before heating it very gently. This results in purer, more easily digestible oil that also provides a richer source of energy. Omega 3 and 6 Essential Fatty AcidsCSJ recognises the importance of the ratio between these essential fatty acids to aid the skin, coat and help boost the dog’s immune system. Although the use of herbs for animals and humans has become much more fashionable in recent years, I have to admit to always having been fascinated by the various uses and health-related properties of herbs - for both humans and animals. I also find it quite astonishing how little most people know about these amazing plants and how sceptical/cynical they remain - in large part due to their ignorance. Whether we realise it or not, herbs already play a huge part in our everyday lives - be they the spices in our kitchen, the vegetables in our salads, the dyes in our clothes or plants (weeds) in our garden.
